DIRECTORS FIND ROLES OF ALL SORTS FOR TALENTED ACTOR
Adam Driver turns the ordinary presence of his character into an extraordinary life while being cast along the way by Hollywood’s great directors.
Director Clint Eastwood gave Driver a part in the FBI biopic J. Edgar (2011) staring Leonardo Di Caprio as bureau chief J. Edgar Hoover.
And director Steven Spielberg cast Driver in the Abraham Lincoln biopic, Lincoln (2012) staring Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln.
Then director Martin Scorsese cast Driver in a leading role as a Portuguese Jesuit Priest in the religious epic, Silence (2016) costarring Andrew Garfield.
Driver has also found himself a role in the much anticipated high fashion house biopic, House of Gucci (2021) directed by Ridley Scott.
Despite these exceptional screen credits, Driver has taken roles in which his character takes on an almost unassuming presence.
In BlacKkKlansman (2018) Driver is part of an undercover team investigating the Ku Klux Klan in the Spike Lee film.
In The Report (2019) Driver plays the bookish investigator compiling an omnibus report on the Central Intelligence Agency’s Detention and Interrogation Program of post 9/11 terror suspects.
The actor’s filmography looks like a long list of real life people with exceptional quality.
In Marriage Story (2019) Driver is the father of a young boy who struggles with the possibility that he may have to stop being a father once the divorce goes through.
Driver’s character lives and works in New York while his soon to be ex-wife, played by Scarlett Johansson, lives and works in Los Angeles with their son. The parties must divide their lives in the two cities to share their son.
This dilemma of time and space is such that Driver could really only have resolved the conundrum during his performance as Kylo Ren, the all-powerful villain in the Star Wars sequels, the Force Awakens (2015) The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
Driver began his acting career in earnest as one of the leads in the blockbuster science fiction space franchise, but he continues to break the type-cast of the super powerful villain by giving extraordinary light to more realistic true to life heroes, with his characters resolving real problems to which everyone can relate.
Driver is currently costarring with Marion Cotillard in the film Annette (2021) which is expected to be released next month after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival where director Leos Carax won best director.
