CINERAMA
STRONG CHARACTER ACTOR DELIVERS
The most innocuous of supporting actors can claim film credits beside acting greats such as Al Pacino, Christian Bale, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks.
Jesse Plemons plays the banal corporate lawyer in the Post (2017).
Then Plemons tranforms a bit to provide the beating heart in Vice (2018). Plemons provides a voice over that fills in the back story while the main narrative takes place in the White House. The audience is enthralled by Christian Bale’s transformative portrayal of Vice President Dick Cheney, but Plemons keeps reminding them that the film needs more than the lead actor in the main narrative.
In Hostiles (2017), the United States Lt. Rudy Kidder will do just fine.
In American Made (2017) Plemons turns in his cavalry sword for a sheriff’s badge.
And Daniel Kaluuya needed to be careful of FBI Agent Roy Mitchell in Judas and the Black Messiah (2021).
Plemons finds important supporting parts that the leading actors don’t want but don’t need in their face either.
The brief screen moments are memorable though, as important supporting roles that intermittently recur throughout the narrative in various films.
